Illuminating the truth: Visualizing the Crisis of the Missing People in Mexico

My undergraduate project aims to shed light on the serious issue of missing people in Mexico through a comprehensive and visually compelling approach. UNCOVER.MEX's mission is to raise awareness, inspire empathy and drive action by presenting the stark reality of this crisis in an accessible and impactful way. Storytelling through data is a fundamental aspect of this project, influencing both the design of the infographics and the development of the scrollytelling website. By transforming raw data into compelling narratives, I aim to make the complex issue of missing people in Mexico both accessible and emotionally resonant for a wide audience.

More Than Just a Project

Throughout the project, I faced several challenges that turned into valuable learning moments. One of the biggest hurdles was gathering and interpreting a huge amount of data. It took careful verification and creative ways to present complex information clearly. Balancing the emotional weight of the stories of the missing and their families with objective reporting was a profound lesson in the sensitivity required in storytelling. This project has been a deeply enriching journey. It reinforced my belief in the power of visual storytelling for advocacy and gave me the tools to address complex social issues through design. To cap off my undergraduate experience, I had the amazing opportunity to showcase my work at the Parcours 2024 exhibition, which was a fantastic way to share my project with others and a lot of interest was shown.
